This has to be the best tumblr I have seen in awhile. Now imagine the 99.999% of “photographers” out there that belong to this site. most of them reside in my state.
The ACLU’s published a photographer’s cheat sheet on their rights when shooting in the field (US only):
- When in public spaces where you are lawfully present you have the right to photograph anything that is in plain view.
- When you are on private property, the property owner may set rules about the taking of photographs.
- Police officers may not generally confiscate or demand to view your photographs or video without a warrant.
- Police may not delete your photographs or video under any circumstances.
- Police officers may legitimately order citizens to cease activities that are truly interfering with legitimate law enforcement operations.
- Note that the right to photograph does not give you a right to break any other laws.
Click through for explanations of each, advice on what to do if stopped or detained, exceptions for shooting around airports and special considerations for videography (eg., “With regards to videotaping, there is an important legal distinction between a visual photographic record (fully protected) and the audio portion of a videotape, which some states have tried to regulate under state wiretapping laws.”)
Messages all in one day…
1) First contacted by photog, and then, “I’m very busy so you’ll have to provide a location [in city I’ve never been to] for us, a MUA, and stylist and concept because I’ve been very busy so I cannot do so… and then I’ll shoot video and edit later on for possible…
Amen, sister. Amen.
To answer your question @anthropoison, no. These images are not for SG (suicide girls). The model works for gods girls and OHC.
She is also a badass friend.
I was editing and pulled a Chip Willis: I left my foot in the image. (instead of a hand)
Either I was too tired during post production or his work inspires me even on a subconscious level. (thanks chip)
1.) Take it serious, if your not serious about modeling or giving 100% to a project trust me that it reflects in your photos. When you go into a shoot, its work mode, focus.
2.) If your reaching out to a photographer directly before you say yes to shoot examine their entire portfolio for 2…
I would add make sure all releases are signed, you get a copy of that release, and it stipulates what you are getting in return and WHEN. Ex: if you are working TFP (trade for print) or being paid for a commercial/editorial shoot.
There is nothing worse than a photographer using talent without compensation of some type. This is your job. Not a hobby. You wouldn’t work at a restaurant for 3-6 hours for just a meal, would you?
Models who take their work seriously are the ones I personally prefer to work with. They inspire me sometimes by their drive/passion alone.
